Having a Carlsberg at ‘The Lebua’

I have a penchant for doing things out of the box, and so I always stumble upon experiences that eventually give me a taste of my own adrenaline rush. Now what’s new in having a beer, if it is not on the highest roof top bar of Bangkok, ‘The Sky Bar’ at Lebua.

I have packed a pair of formal shoes, a shirt and trousers especially for this evening. I know they are making my backpack heavier by at least 3 kgs but, big deal. With soaring hormones, this is the first view of Bangkok that I see from the 63rd floor.

Skyline of Downtown Bangkok from The Sky Bar

How to reach The Lebua:

Take the BTS Sky Train (Silom Line) to Saphan Taksin station
Take Exit 3 and follow Charoen Krung Rd.
Opening Hours: 06:00 pm – 01:00 am
Distance from Sky Train station: 500m
The Golden dome below can be seen from anywhere.

The Charoen Krung Rd. is littered with street food vendors. I ignore a tuk-tuk driver who is trying to offer me his services by telling me that The Lebua is quite far. The visitors to Sky Bar have to wear smart casuals or semi formals. Any punks or people dressed in beach wear are politely turned away.
I have reached a little early and The Sky Bar is yet to open. A lady comes up and asks me if I would like to order a drink while I am waiting. I wish I could tell her – ‘My Lady, I only LOOK rich. And even though I hate to say no to a beautiful lady, I just have enough money for one beer which I would like to have at the Sky Bar only’
The Sky Bar itself changes colour every few seconds from blue to pink and then to yellow. Most of the people are here to enjoy a drink or two and experience the thrill of overlooking the Bangkok skyline. The food at Sirocco (The roof top restaurant) is very expensive but the tables are filling up fast and before I could blink the place is full. There is a gentle breeze blowing with live jazz music in the background.

Here is the menu which I managed to get hold of:

The average dinner for two at The Sirocco costs about 10,000 THB. At The Sky Bar, a pint of beer is the cheapest, costing 320 THB with the price of other drinks and cocktails sky rocketing pretty fast.

The food and drinks may be ridiculously expensive but the thrill of being at Bangkok’s highest roof top bar is what has got me here. Every moment that I spend and each breath that I take while I am here is totally worth it.
