Travelling is fun (emm… I think I would say it is like meditation for me), but travelling with no planning may get you in tight spots with nowhere to go. Oh no, I am not asking you to plan each second of your time and each penny in your pocket. What are you, a droid? How would it be if you had all your tickets, booking confirmation numbers, calling options, maps and what not just a swipe of a finger away? Here are some of the amazing mobile apps that I discovered over a period of time and which I think are totally cool.
Hostelworld: www.hostelworld.com is a website that offers hostels, B&Bs, hotels, campsites & resorts all over the planet. What if you need to find a hostel in Napoli at night and all the possible sources of internet are closed? Hostelworld has this amazing mobile app which is fast, uses data connection and can show plus book any accomodation for you in minutes. Check out the application on
Google Play Store.
Tripit: This one is my personal favorite. I happened to stumble upon this by fluke, and ever since, I have psssttt…
“shared a love affair with this app.” I can plan my whole trip. I can store my ticket confirmation numbers, my hostel booking details, addresses, phone numbers and names of all the agencies I will take services from while I am away. Above all, it comes coupled with Google Maps which I can use anywhere to search for an address that I can’t seem to find. What’s more? I can even check into my flight or search for alternate flight if mine is cancelled while I am driving to the airport, provided I have the PRO version. Check out the application
Tripit.

Coolest apps for a traveller |
Google Maps: This application has got me out of places where I didn’t know which direction was East and which was West. It has guided me through streets while driving. I needn’t say more. Just get it.
Couchsurfing: Ooo la la.. So I have been cheating on Tripit as Couchsurfing is my second love. I am a travel addict. If I spend money on hotels and hostels wherever I go, I will be broke. Couchsurfing lets me get in touch with the locals all over the world and request for a couch. I can host travellers to my country as well. I can even meet up someone for a coffee if I can’t offer a couch at the moment. Exciting enough? Just go and get yourself up on Couchsurfing.
Couchsurfing website: www.couchsurfing.org
Skype: I can’t afford to make long distance calls everyday when I am away. If I do not call for even a day, my family would assume I am kidnapped by someone or something dreadful has happened. I used Skype to make video calls to my home on my last trip to Thailand. I am amazed by the sound and video quality even though I was using an average Wi-Fi connection only. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Skype.
I can travel without these apps also but why should I not use all these apps via my third love, my Android smartphone – Damn, how many affairs am I having at a time.
P.S. Be assured, all the apps I have told you above won’t cost you a penny.
Hey, do you know of any other killer app for travelers? If yes, share in the comments below.
